Read contracts, leases, and bills before you sign or pay

Elon Musk and users say Grok Bot is useful for reading contracts, leases, and bills in plain English. It's not legal advice; have a lawyer review anything important.

The problem

Contracts, lease renewals with stacked addendums, and confusing bills are long. The parts that matter, like fees, deadlines, and renewal terms, are easy to miss.

How the bot does it

From Elon Musk: "Grok @Bot is great for reviewing any legal docs, like contracts or estate planning." Elon was quoting @DirtyTesLa, who uses it to check contracts, leases, and bills for hidden fees.

Users report:

  • @mikepat711 handed a long lease renewal with many addendums to his bot and asked it to scan the whole thing.
  • @TheRealBagi had his bot read the fine print on a reservation before paying (single source).
  • @ItsMeTrueG says his bot read a company's payment rules, wrote a call script, waited for his OK, then called and asked to hold the bill until payday. Calling needs a phone plugin.
  • @MarsHomestead used it to work on lowering an old phone bill.
  • @ElectricDavo asked his bot to sort out insurance on a vehicle he'd sold (single source).

Not legal advice. Have a lawyer review anything important.

Setup steps

  1. 1Upload the document, or the bill and your current agreement.
  2. 2Ask for a plain-English summary with fees, deadlines, and renewal terms, plus page numbers.
  3. 3Ask for questions to bring to a lawyer or the company.
  4. 4Anything that goes out is Draft, I send.
  5. 5Tell it: Stop and ask me before paying, signing, or submitting anything.

Example prompt

Read the attached [contract/lease/bill]. Explain it in plain English, list every fee, deadline, and renewal term with the page, and flag anything unusual. List questions for a lawyer. This isn't legal advice. Change nothing. Stop and ask me before sending, signing, or paying anything.

The result

A plain-English summary, a list of terms to check, and draft questions or requests that you decide whether to send. These are users' own accounts. We don't promise any savings or outcomes.

Double-check your taxes, or your CPA's work

Elon Musk says Grok Bot can help with taxes. Two users say it reviewed their returns and found mistakes. Not tax advice; a human signs and files.

Please review my [year] tax return and the documents in [folder]. List anything that looks missing or wrong, with the document and line for each one and how sure you are. Write it as a list of questions for my CPA. Don't file, sign, submit, or contact anyone.

Meal plan to grocery cart (with a pantry check)

Users report Grok Bot turning recipes into a grocery cart after a pantry check, so they only approve the order. Note: Amazon is blocking Grok Bot.

Plan 5 dinners for 4 people this week, under $[budget], no [allergy]. Ask me what's already in the pantry first. Then build a cart at [store] and show me the list, the total, and the delivery window. Don't place the order or pay. I'll review it and check out myself.
